This week we are interviewing metal band Asylum 8. See their BTA Artist profile HERE. Enjoy!
Please introduce yourselves.
Hi guys! We’re Asylum 8 hailing from Kuopio, Finland!
How did you end up making music together?
Anssi and Henry ended up in the same band back in 2010 and they have been involved in making music since that. Sami P hopped along after a couple of years when we wanted to blend in some synth action. Asylum 8 took its final form in 2015 when Pasi, Tatu and Sami H joined the band. There’s been a ton of lineup changes between 2010 and 2015. Despite that, we’ve known each other more or less even before we started playing together through other contacts in the Kuopio music scene.
How would you describe your musical style, on your profile you say “It’s like a death metal band had a baby with a DJ!” How did you end up mixing metal music with a DJ?
Our music is based on hillbillyish disco tunes and ruthless death metal. We don’t have a DJ.
Can you tell us little about your creative process?
We write stuff, sometimes it’s the synths that get done first, sometimes it’s the guitars. We try to review all our ideas in group and arrange the songs together.
What is the best thing about being in a band?
Making awesome songs and hanging with your mates!
The most memorable show you performed?
Maybe too early to say, since it’s coming later this week: Dark River Festival! It’s the first really big show we’ve managed to get.
If you could choose, which artist would you like to see live? Dead or alive.
This is just Anssi’s opinion, but.. PANTERA
Tell us about your regular hang out? Have you ever had a gig there?
We usually hang around in each other’s houses. We’ve had a couple of rehearsals at Sami P’s and Henry’s places, but not an actual show obviously. And if we’re out drinking, we tend to end up in Henry’s Pub, which is the regular place to perform for basically every band in Kuopio.
Future projects we should know about?
More recordingses! We’ll be releasing new material in 2017’s 1st quarter.
Which artist would you like to see being interview by BTA? Which one question would you ask them?
Scars of Solitude! Really nice guys and we played several shows with them last spring!
We will give Scars of Solitude a shout for sure. Thanks for the interview guys and keep on rocking! Until next week.
